I switched to this from a snaffle as I like to neckrein and ride one handed. The horse we picked up had been a camp horse and although well trained and ridden, someone must have used excessive force which caused the horse to not like bits. This mechanical bitless worked flawlessly. Great control right from the start. Its like the horse was thanking me. Highly recommend it. I cannot vouch for it with kids tho.
