The Power of Gratitude
How would you settle into fall with reflection and gratefulness?

Do you love the feeling of fall? As you cozy up into hibernation for fall, do you find yourself grabbing blankets, fleeces and comforting fall coloured essentials?  As the days go by, we’re reminded by the chill of the wind and nature’s preparation for cold weather that the reflective season is upon us.

Thanksgiving is the highlight of fall, and the perfect time to practice gratitude. We believe that gratitude should extend past one holiday weekend and be practiced actively every day. This season of transition serves as a perfect backdrop for cultivating gratitude. In the Western community, this is done through spending time with loved ones, appreciating the land that we live on and harvest from, acts of kindness, and cozy gatherings that bring everyone together to celebrate the blessings we are gifted all year long.

How Should I Practice Gratitude?

While the days grow shorter and nights grow longer, it’s great to use your quiet moments and be grateful for something each day, no matter how big or small. Shift your mindset from rushing and busy to that of appreciation and joy. When everything slows down, we come to be more grateful for what we have, what we have accomplished, and where we are going because of our accomplishments, milestones and special life moments. While in the process of slowing down for fall, we can also voice our gratitude for the people, places, and things that are important in our lives.

Communicating appreciation can bring you, and those around you, peace and happiness. There is much joy to go around in showing gratitude in many different ways and having mindful practices that keep you in the headspace of being gracious this season.

Practical Ways to Be Thankful

→ Get on your boots and jeans and go for a walk in the warm changing colours of autumn and think about all the good things that have happened. It can be easy to overlook the small things. They often have deeper sentimental value than any grand gesture of appreciation.

→ Send a loved one or friend a card filled with heartfelt words. You never know how much that can genuinely brighten someone’s day.

Spend time with animals. Your horse, your furry friends or other pets can help us feel grounded and think about the important things in life.

→  Gift family and friends with classic family cooking, homegrown vegetables from the farm, or a whole turkey dinner; maybe you’ll even make a turkey pot pie out of the leftovers!

Thankful for our Food Producers

Speaking of gratitude, at Lammle’s we like to give thanks to our food producers, all across Canada. Cowboy culture is rooted in the appreciation for the flourishing farming scene in our country. Fresh, bountiful crops and fresh meats are among the great contributions that our food producers give to us for the holidays.  Thanksgiving and any gathering of family and friends is a wonderful time to enjoy food on our tables, surrounded by the people we are most grateful for.
