There’s something special about cooking with family, especially during the holidays. Marie Lammle shared a heartfelt recipe that’s become a tradition in her family, cherished by grandkids and “big kids” alike. As she puts it:
“The kids just love to come to Gramma’s house to cook. They are getting really good. One of my grandsons already is a happy young Chef and makes really tasty food and my eldest granddaughter recently made a cake. I am keeping them supplied with easy recipes and already starting to pass down traditions. They all love to get involved and they all take part in washing up. I get such a kick out of them, just joy!”Marie treasures these moments, creating lasting memories with her grandkids while preparing dishes made with love. For her, it’s more than just cooking—it’s about making the holiday season brighter by sharing time together in the kitchen.
One recipe that’s always a crowd-pleaser in her home is the Mandarin Orange Jello Salad. Light, fluffy, and bursting with citrusy sweetness, it’s the perfect dish to add a touch of festive flair to any gathering.
Mandarin Orange Jello Salad
Here’s Marie’s go-to recipe:Ingredients
- 8 oz. Cool Whip (thawed)
- 1 (3 oz.) box of orange Jello powder
- 2 (398 ml) cans of mandarin oranges (adjust quantity to taste)
- 2 (398 ml) cans of crushed pineapple (adjust quantity to taste)
- 1 ½ cups mini marshmallows
1. Mix together the Cool Whip and Jello powder in a large bowl.
2. Drain the canned fruit and gently stir it into the mixture.
3. Fold in the marshmallows.
4. Transfer the mixture to a glass bowl or a pretty serving dish for the best presentation.
5. Chill for a few hours before serving.
Marie's Suggested Garnish: Add maraschino cherries or seasonal decorations for an extra festive touch.
Marie loves how flexible this recipe is. Whether it’s adding extra fruit or marshmallows to suit the grandkids’ tastes, it’s always a hit.
“The beauty of this salad is that measurements of the fruit and marshmallows can vary as to your preference (or as the grandkids request).”This holiday season, take a page from Marie’s book and create a little kitchen magic with your loved ones. With a recipe this easy and delightful, you’ll have everyone coming back for seconds—and sweet memories to last a lifetime.
Enjoy!
